A warm welcome to the inaugural edition of i to the world, the bi-monthly newsletter from Utilities 400. Our aim is to keep customers and prospects up to date with the latest additions and changes in our products and services while at the same time providing hints and tips to help customers maximize their investment in our software. We also intend to focus on the ways that different companies use our products to improve their business processes.

|

The latest versions of all six of our products (RouteOne, ShowMe, iRoute, ProActive, QueryManager and Profiler) are now available for downloading from our web site. A PDF document contains instructions for product downloads, installation and the loading of the latest PTFs which are refreshed twice weekly.

Announcing ProFiler, our new document management solution
|
Phase one of Profiler is now available on general release. This module integrates with the RouteOne electronic forms facility to create a store of any or all outgoing documents produced on the i. The user can specify as many search keys from the document as required, extra keys can also be taken from database files on the system.
From the store, documents can then be viewed, re-printed or emailed. This enables the simple printing or emailing of copy invoices etc. It is also easy to import any spool file into ProFiler for archival and re-printing purposes.

A facility exists for the scanning of any other documents that you wish to add to the store. The product is fully compliant with the Inland Revenue SAF-T specification.

|
iRoute enhanced to allow uploading of files in variable formats
|
|
Our product for uploading data to the i, iRoute, has been significantly enhanced. Prior to version 4.20, the layout of an incoming spreadsheet or database needed to be specified at design time and the columns mapped to the correct fields on the database files on the i. In the new release this is not necessary – it is possible to generate a script that will process whichever fields are in the uploaded file and add/change/delete as required. It is also now possible to write and update multiple files from the same upload. Full user authority can be specified at the system, library, file and field level to prevent unauthorised updates. Potential OS PTF problem if at release level V5R4
|
|
Customers that regularly apply cumulative operating system PTFs and are at operating system release V5R4 need to be aware that applying PTF number SI32758 may cause the maintenance or creation of RouteOne definitions to fail. If you come across this problem you will need to apply a later PTF, SI33245, to correct the problem. This issue is caused by an operating system bug when processing multi member logical files.

ShowMe now incorporates file updates
|
Our web and green screen enquiry and business intelligence product, ShowMe, has now evolved into a full application development product. It now allows web pages to perform file updates, additions and deletes. This can be performed from a flat panel, a scrolling list or both at the same time.
The latest PTFs for ShowMe release v4.3.3 will add this functionality. These PTFs can be downloaded from our FTP site. A new version of ShowMe is also now available, existing customers should apply all v4.4.3 PTFs which will automatically perform the upgrade to the latest version 5.00.

There are many more improvements that have been added recently including a report repository, variable drill downs in BI cubes and improved executive dashboards. Added AJAX capability has also improved browser response times in most enquiries.

|
Upgrading to operating system V6R1
|
|
Many customers will be aware that upgrading to version 6 of the operating system is quite a major upgrade as all programs need to be re-created to run on the new release. Programs that do not contain a full symbol table and have been compiled on a system prior to V5R1 will not be able to be re-created. Some older versions of our products contain programs that will not run under V6R1. Please see our web site for full details, by release, of all our products. If your version is not compatible we recommend upgrading to the latest release of our software before upgrading your operating system.

ProActive provides workflow and database auditing
|
Some customers may not be aware of another of our recent product releases – ProActive. This product will monitor for database activity (Inserts, Updates, Deletes or Reads) and perform user defined tasks. The product can be configured to call user programs, run SQL statements, run commands and build audit logs. Actions can be controlled by user, job, program name or field changed. ProActive makes it easy to improve workflow without changing any user applications. The latest version of ProActive is 1.11.

|
We recently held our second customer day at Simon Jersey in Lancashire. This was again well attended with over fifty customers making the trip. Video highlights of the customer stories are now available for viewing on our website.

RouteOne enhancements continue
|
RouteOne, our product to transfer data from the i to all the popular PC formats, continues to be enhanced. One of the latest changes is to create a marketing eblast in HTML format – the created emails can be personalised for each recipient. We have used this functionality to distribute this email newsletter.
Version 6.14 and upward now fully supports Microsoft Office 2007 formats, including exporting over 1 million rows to Excel. The latest version of RouteOne is 6.20.

RouteOne now allows record archiving
|
|
The latest version of RouteOne allows the archiving of records from your i database to either another file on the i, or to any other format supported by RouteOne such as SQL server, Access, Excel etc. The product can also automatically generate a script that allows the records to be restored via iRoute.

Customer short story
|
One illustration of a customer utilizing our product set to its maximum is Dams International, based on Merseyside. Dams are the UKs leading independent manufacturer and supplier of home and office furniture. One way they use the UTI product set is to process the whole sales order cycle for customers such as Asda and Homebase.
PciRoute monitors the customers’ secure FTP site for the placement of any orders in XML format. When an order is found, it is automatically transferred to the System 21 interface files on Dams iSeries server and the standard System 21 interface programs are called to transfer the order into Dams ERP system. ProActive is used to monitor the Sales Order files for status changes – for example, whenever an order is received from the customer or delivered to the end user, a RouteOne request is called to generate an XML document representing the status change which is then uploaded via secure FTP back to the customers FTP site. ShowMe allows the customer to log on via a browser to check the real time status of all their orders on the Dams system.

Query Manager
|
|
Version 2 of QueryManager is now available. This product gives complete visibility of the use of Query and SQL on your system. As well as showing you details of query use, it will monitor access path builds (the main performance degradation when running Query) and provide recommendations to improve performance. The latest version of Query Manager is 2.00.
|
